Hans-Jörg Bullinger
Prof. Hans-Jörg Bullinger has chaired the executive board of the Fraunhofer Future Foundation since 2020. Bullinger served as the president of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Munich from 2002 to 2012 and as a senator of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft from 2013 until 2018.
After apprenticing as a fitter and then earning a secondary school diploma, he studied at the University of Stuttgart. He went on to a doctorate in mechanical engineering there and ultimately qualified as a professor. Early in his career, Bullinger took on leadership positions in applied research and teaching. He founded the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO and the Institute of Human Factors and Technology Management IAT at the University of Stuttgart, both of which he headed for 20 years.
Bullinger is a member of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and a fellow of both the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA). He has received numerous awards and distinctions for his work, including several honorary doctorates and professorships. manager magazin named Bullinger “Manager of the Year” in 2009. The German president presented him with the Knight Commander’s Cross of the Federal Order of Merit in 2012, and he was inducted into the German Research Hall of Fame in 2013.
In his role as president of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Bullinger shaped Fraunhofer’s profile as an internationally known brand. He charted the course for the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft to become a key driver of technological innovation for sustainable development.
