Funding research for a sustainable future

The Fraunhofer Future Foundation is one of Germany’s major research foundations. The foundation was established in 2008. In line with its statutes, it exclusively funds projects at the Fraunhofer institutes. The Fraunhofer Future Foundation’s assets include over 80 million euros in spending capital available for these purposes. Private engagements such as endowments and donations help us to make our vision a reality and support our efforts to move toward a future-proof society worth living in.

If we are to continue to live in an ecologically intact, socially equitable, and economically viable world in the future, we need to change our economy and way of life. We believe research can contribute to positive change in our society. The Fraunhofer Future Foundation supports inventive spirit and bold, pioneering work by Fraunhofer researchers. We focus especially on research projects that support the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

To make this transformation of society a success, we will need all of the stakeholders involved in innovation to be on board. As a result, we seek out dialogue with other organizations across the science and research segments and in civil society and with the private and public sectors and actively support collaboration among all these areas.

Our committees: the backbone of the Fraunhofer Future Foundation

The Fraunhofer Future Foundation maintains close organizational ties with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and is an integral element of the Fraunhofer family. This enables a streamlined and efficient foundation organization. The foundation’s executive board and board of trustees are the main bodies of the Fraunhofer Future Foundation. The executive board represents the Fraunhofer Future Foundation and conducts ongoing business and administration in keeping with the guidelines and resolutions adopted by the board of trustees. The board of trustees makes decisions on all matters of fundamental or particular importance and advises, supports, and supervises the executive board in carrying out its duties. The foundation’s board of trustees and executive board endorse the Guiding Principles of Good Practice for Foundations adopted by the Association of German Foundations (Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen) as a voluntary code for their own actions.

A central office organizes the Fraunhofer Future Foundation’s processes and serves as a central point of contact.
