Our mission and statutes

Our mission: transforming our way of life and economy sustainably

We support and shape society’s transformation toward a sustainable way of life and economy. Amid mounting societal challenges, the Fraunhofer Future Foundation redefined its action fields in 2020 as part of a realignment. Our funding now facilitates the development of products, services and business models that make an important contribution to resolving global challenges. Our actions are increasingly guided by the idea of sustainable development and by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

When carrying out our projects, we leverage collaborations with science, society, politics and industry to bring research findings into application. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, with its outstanding researchers and high-quality infrastructure, forms the foundation of our activities.

We are committed to ensuring that the scientific field is oriented toward the needs of society, with research organizations and scientists engaging in positive, constructive dialogue with the public and including them in decision-making.

Our purpose as set down in our statutes: accelerating technology transfer

The Fraunhofer Future Foundation supports technology-oriented research projects of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft with the goal of accelerating the application of research findings via licensing. The foundation was established in 2008 in the form of a public civil-law foundation with legal capacity as provided by sections 80 and 81 of the German Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch, BGB). The foundation has its registered office in Munich and pursues exclusively non-profit and directly tax-privileged purposes.

The purpose and tasks of the Fraunhofer Future Foundation are set down in the statutes of the Fraunhofer Future Foundation, dated November 4, 2008, which were acknowledged by the Government of Upper Bavaria on November 18, 2008.
